The Fund Raising Committee believes strongly that it is important for our village to maintain its proud history and heritage in terms of a well maintained Church and Village Hall.  This view is shared by many in the village, who continue to willingly give their time and support to the varied programme of activities, too numerous to mention.

We are delighted to report that both Church and Village Hall have each recently received £1500 from the events we have organised and the generous contributions from all who have attended and given their time and support.

The Church uses the funds it receives from the committee to manage its day to day running costs. St Andrews is a wonderful example of the many historic churches in the county.  Maintenance is a costly business and the church is also saving funds for building refurbishment projects such as significant repair to stonework in the tower and replacement of selected windows.

Thanks to the generous support from many quarters in the village (especially the Bulls Head) the Village Hall now has sufficient funds to manage its day to day running costs.  Funds are now being saved in order to replace the main windows of the hall.

Distribution of Fund Raising Money

This year’s Bonfire and Fireworks Display was deemed a success.  Thanks to good weather and the continued support from the village and a considerable number of outsiders the event made a healthy profit.

Thanks to all those who gave of their time to make the evening such a success and, as ever, special thanks to Sue, Alex and the Handy family for the use of their field and all their hard work.

Bonfire and Fireworks

Thank you to everyone who entered this year’s Teddy Bear Competition.  It was nice to see so many well travelled teddies!

The winners are as follows:

UK Competition:                 Carol Gash travelled with Leo & Larry to Guernsey

Most Adventurous Teddy: Gary Lunt and Ted the Bear toured California.

Poem for Arthingworth

Greg  has kindly asked us to publish a poem about Arthingworth written by his father who passed away last Christmas.

Please see the new page “Poem”.

Many thanks for such a lovely tribute to the village and to your father.

Arthingworth Village Fayre and Dog Show

We are proud to announce that the magnificent total of £2,600 profit was made at this event.  As ever, the village would like to thank everyone who helped make the Fayre such a success.

Firstly, the Guinness family for allowing the village to use the magnificent setting.

Secondly whoever provided the excellent weather.

Thirdly and very importantly, all those who contributed prizes for the raffle; gave donations; spent time, planning, organising and overseeing the events; attending the Fayre and spending money.

It is invidious to single out individuals by name, but it is important to mention Jodie for the planning and expert execution of the event and the continuing support of the Bulls Head in fund raising activities.

Everyone else who helped, new-comers and the established ones, a heart-felt thank you for your efforts.

§ Put a dog on a lead when directed by a Council officer;

§ Specify a maximum number of dogs that an owner may take onto land at any one time.

The six-week consultation period will run from January 17 until February 28 for people to register their comments.

A consultation questionnaire, the proposed orders, an advice leaflet and frequently asked questions may be viewed at www.daventrydc.gov.uk/consultation or by requesting a copies over the phone on 01327 871100.

The AFRC AGM was held on 13 January 2011 at the Bulls Head.  The Committee Chair, Jane Perry, reported on a successful 2010 and outlined the plans for 2011.

Jane was pleased to announce that the Village Hall and St Andrew’s Church each received £1750 during 2010, fruits of the efforts of the AFRC, the Bull’s Head and many other members of the village.

Parish Council

This year seven gardens were open on 03 July for the National Garden Scheme.  Ideal weather helped turn the spectacle into a wonderful success.  Some 400 attendees resulted in about £2000 going to the NGS and the village benefiting from takings of £850 from teas and refreshments.

Such an event could not have been possible without the kind opening of the gardens, all the attendant hard loving work, and the donations of cakes etc. for sale and the efforts of all those helping provide teas on the day.  Many thanks for your efforts.

After such a rewarding day it is hoped to make open gardens an annual occasion in Arthingworth.

Arthingworth Open Gardens (NGS)

As a result of the recent Open Gardens and the Fayre the Church and Village Hall can each expect to receive in excess of £1500 in the near future.

Do you get frustrated when delivery people can't find your house, particularly if your house is known by a name rather than a number?

One idea that has been suggested is for a simple map to be included within the Arthingworth website showing our streets with locations of house names and/or numbers. This could perhaps be printed off, or alternatively the Arthingworth website address could be e-mailed to people (
www.arthingworth.info) so as to help them find you.

Obviously there may be some people who might prefer (for whatever reason) that their house name/number is not shown on the map. Therefore, in compiling this simple map of the village, I will only include house names/numbers of people who have given their express consent for theirs to be shown.

If you DO wish your house name and/or number to be shown, can you please therefore drop me (Phil) a quick e-mail at
foggylaggy@live.co.uk

The map (which is in preparation) will not show people's names!
