A message from Patricia Abell
My great great grandmother was Ellen R Kent who worked as a house maid in ARTHINGWORTH 1861.
I have enclosed a picture of her as an old lady she is sitting centre. I have also
enclosed the census for the year 1861.
Please could you tell me was there only one large house in which she would be working
as ARTHINGWORTH is down as the address.
Ellen R Kent was born 1837 in Farm Street
Berkley Square London.
On the 1861 census she is working in Arthingworth as a house
maid aged 24 unmarried.
by 1871 she was 34 married with 2 children aged 6 living in
West Ham london
by 1891 she was 54 living with her husband thomas spriggs and more
children
by 1901 she was 64 a widow a pauper Inmate her work was yet again a Housemaid.
Oh how Life has changed I now never complain about doing house work
If anyone has
any info on her time spent at ARTHINGWORTH or a picture of the house or area I would
love to hear from them
Best wishes Patricia
